ALPINE’S GIANT ILX-F309 HALO9 CAR SCREEN
One of the biggest names in car audio, Alpine, has announced its new iLX-F309 Halo9, an in-dash system with a 9-inch touchscreen that "hovers" over the vehicle's dashboard.
Many modern cars now have dated navigation systems, the absence of connectivity options including Bluetooth, or even the inability to play high-res FLAC files.
Upgrading the units through your local car dealership isn't always possible or worse, very costly. Alpine's new Halo9 solves the problem by bringing the absolute latest in connectivity in a 1-DIN chassis and allowing the oversize screen to be added to a variety of vehicles without the need for custom installation.
The iLX-F309 is an AM/FM/Digital Media Receiver with a 9-inch WVGA touchscreen and mech-less design (meaning there is no CD/DVD slot).
It's suited for smartphone compatibility through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto with the Google Assistant. It also has Bluetooth wireless technology with audio streaming.
There is a USB port for video or audio, an AUX input, and an HDMI input. An optional second HDMI input can even be added.
Where the Halo9 is unique is its ability to hovers over the dashboard while the rear housing tapers at the edges for a thin profile.
The screen can be tilted at four pre-set angle points (45 degrees, 20 degrees, 0 degrees, -20 degrees) for better viewing depending on the tilt and height of the vehicle's dashboard. There is also additional depth and vertical adjustments to ensure the Halo9 doesn't interfere with buttons and controls on the dashboard.
Alpine's iLX-F309 Halo9 In-Dash System is expected in Australia around May, and sells overseas for US $1100 RRP. Local pricing has not yet been confirmed.
